The thoughts of a relatively well-adjusted D.C. attorney (is there such a thing?), nestled comfortably in the anonymity of suburbia. Favorite things to do include playing the guitar, going to the gym to run five miles (and actually only running two), watching old episodes of Sports Night, finding new and tasty restaurants to eat at, playing ridiculously large games of Halo (and now Halo 2), and continuously rambling about almost anything (hence, this blog).

I guess it could have been worse.

iTunes Broke My Hard Drive

Okay, there's no two ways about it -- this was a long weekend.  My hard drive is still whirring from the Three-Mile Island-sized meltdown last Friday.  I'm scared to touch it for fear that it might just disintegrate into a million pieces.  I'm a little bit surprised it didn't catch on fire.  Actually, in a weird way, I would have been happier if it had.  If this has taught me nothing else, it has taught me that I need an iPod (I stress the word "NEED").  I miss my music.  I miss it very much.  I'm currently in the bargaining stage of dealing with grief (having already dealt with denial and anger).  Eventually, I'll get to acceptance.  Just not today.

So there's good news and bad news about the data recovery software.  The good news is that it probably retrieved about 95% of my music.  The bad news is about half of the songs it retrieved sound garbled.  I talked to a friend about it and he said it had something to do with bits and bytes and nano-whatevers...  All I know is that half my songs are messed up.  Big time.  Now when I click on, "Saints and Sailors" by Dashboard Confessional, I get a little of "Bang Bang" by Dispatch and some Brittany Spears sounding song which I SWEAR was never on the hard drive to begin with.  I think someone's messing with me.

I'm now trying to consolidate my music under iTunes (since it beats having to reorganize all of my music...AGAIN).  Seeing as iTunes is the program that broke my hard drive, I have no idea why I'm using it.  It's like I crave more abuse.  Sad, really.  But I still need an iPod, and I don't want to upset the Apple gods.  Karma and all that...

Other than the hard drive fiasco, my weekend actually was pretty nice.  Went out with a bunch of friends on Friday night, and had a bunch of different people over for dinner on Saturday evening.  It's been a while since I've hung out with large bunch of single people.  It reminded me of being in college, just doing whatever we wanted to do next.  Less talking about mowing the lawn tomorrow morning, or getting up early to go shopping with your girlfriend/wife/fiance, and more talking about sleeping in until 3:00pm.  No Home Depot trips this weekend.  I had almost forgotten how nice that was.  I guess that's what being in and out of relationships for the past 6 years will do to you.

I'm hoping this week flies by pretty fast.  I'm not feeling any motivation to work.  What time is it?  Ugh.  And it's only Monday.

Hard Drive Hopes

Just purchased data recovery software online, thanks to the wonder that is the Internet.  We'll see what happens...

Hard Drives are for Chumps

My external hard drive just crashed, taking with it over 500 CDs worth of music.  I was able to retrieve about 4 GB worth (out of 60 GB).  I could not be angrier right now.  I'm in that calm state of just sheer disbelief.  I'm going to sleep now, and when I wake up, that hard drive better be full of tunes, or else...sadly, there is no "or else".  I just have to sit and take it, and then rebuild it.

A Day Well Deserved

Things I did today instead of working:

1.      Tried to sleep as much as humanly possible.

2.      Hit the snooze bar several times, before realizing that I didn't even need an alarm.

3.      Smiled upon realizing #2.

4.      Drank a nice cup of
Caribou Coffee.

5.      Read the newspaper.  All of it.

6.      Ate a popsicle.  Cherry.

7.      Bought a
golf club.

8.      Tested the club out on the driving range.

9.      Threw the club down several times in disgust, because despite the money I spent on it, it didn't seem to correct my ridiculously bad slice (in the words of the golf pro that sold it to me, "If you can't hit straight with this club, you shouldn't play golf").  I don't know what that means for me, but I don't like the sound of that.

10.      Got a blister on my thumb.  Owwie.

11.     Took a nap.

12.      Wrote this blog entry.

All in all, I think, a good day so far.  Not quite Ferris Bueller-quality, but fun (all except the blister part).  And the day's not over yet...

Ummm...what I mean is...I didn't....ummmm...

Don't judge me.  That's all I have to say.

Okay, I didn't eat them ALL (I gave a few to a homeless guy outside my building).  I was also really happy to learn that the first person in line at the Krispy Kreme this morning was a guy who actually doesn't eat doughnuts because he's an Orthodox Jew (the doughnuts aren't kosher).  When asked what he would do with a dozen doughnuts a week, he said that he would give them away to the homeless.
Nice job Rami.  Well done.  As for me, my will to wait in line for "hot nows" faded when I went home last night and eased into a nice game of poker (incidentally, the $110 in my pocket tells me my losing streak is OVER).  I went and bought myself something shiny.  Or more accurately, I bought someone else something shiny.  No, not that.

I've still got work to do tonight, which stinks, but at least I'm home.  And that's a million times better than being in the office.  I'm off to see Ben's new place in a bit.  Odds of getting my work done?  Not so good...

In Case of Sugar Coma, Break Glass

Can'  More to come, if I can just make it through the impending tsunami-of-a-sugar-coma.
